Why I Breed

People often ask why I breed dogs.

The answer isn’t because I want to produce puppies.  I breed because I know what a truly exceptional dog can mean to a person or family’s life.

The dogs in my life have been more than companions – they have shaped who I am.  They have been my comfort in difficult times, my partners in adventure, my children’s protectors, and steady, loving presences through every season of life.  Their loyalty, intelligence, gentleness and quiet understanding have left a lasting impact on me, and I believe that a truly great dog has the power to do that for anyone. 

Because of that, I feel a deep responsibility.

If I am going to bring puppies into the world, I want to do everything in my power to give them the best possible start in life.  While no breeder can guarantee perfection, I am committed to making thoughtful, responsible decisions that support the health and temperament, and well-being of every dog I raise.

That commitment begins long before puppies are born.  I have carefully selected parents with excellent temperaments, complete DNA testing, and certified OFA evaluations for hips and elbows.  These steps help guide responsible breeding decisions, but also recognize that many factors – environment, activity and life experiences – play a role in a dog’s long-term health.

Once puppies arrive, my focus shifts to their development.

From their very first days they receive Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) and Early Scent Introduction (ESI), daily handling, thoughtful socialization, and age-appropriate experiences designed to build confidence, curiosity and resilience.  I raise them in my home, where they are exposed to real-life sights, sounds and interactions that help prepare them for the world they will grow into. 

Equally important is the care of the adult dogs I own.

They are not just breeding dogs – they are family members.  Their well-being, happiness, and quality of life always comes first.  I believe that how a mother dog is cared for directly impacts the puppies she raises, and I am committed to providing a safe, loving and enriching environment for all of them. 

I am intentionally a small hobby breeder

I don’t want to produce a large number of litters, I want to know every puppy, celebrate every milestone, answer every question, and remain a lifelong resource for the families who trust me with one of the most important companions they will every welcome into their homes. 

If one of my puppies grows into a dog that comforts a child during a thunderstorm, hikes mountains with its owner, patiently watches over a newborn, retrieves birds from the lake, or quietly rests beside someone during the hardest season of their life, then I have accomplished exactly what I have set out to do.
